Facilitating access to funding and building the longer term resilience of the nature-based tourism sector in eastern and southern Africa

The COVID-19 crisis crippled economies and industries all over the world, and nature-based tourism was one of the leading economic casualties. For many eastern and southern African countries, this meant a significant loss of funding for their conservation operations, local community livelihoods, and tourism enterprises.

Using a bottom-up approach, the African Nature-Based Tourism Platform gathered data on impacts to communities and SMEs from the COVID-19 crisis, facilitated learning and knowledge exchanges, identified funding opportunities, and developed funding proposals with communities and SMEs.
